Need Good Food

Just need to vent for a moment... I am starving!! All that I've had since arriving here in Galveston are steamed plain veggies, a luna bar and some soy milk (the last two I brought with me). It drives me crazy when they think that's all you can eat, and I'm not staying at a shabby hotel either! I need grains! I need protein! I need flavor! Ugh. Okay, well at least the view from my room isn't bad....

That's all for now. Internet at the hotel is 50 cents a minute so I'm keeping this brief. Can't wait to get home, get some real food, and catch up on your blogs!

Oh dear! That is a horrible spot to be in. Maybe you can find a close store and get yourself a can of beans or vegan burger patti! I hope your trip ends soon or you find some yummy and nutritious food. :o) Hang in there kiddo

Diann from http://eatnvegn.blogspot.com/lives in Austin, but I don't think that is near you. Too bad, you could go have a delicious meal with her. :o)

Oh no! I wish I could send you some vegan food over the internet!

I wasn't yet vegan when I went to Galveston... I remember eating a lot of Fettuccine Alfredo :o/

Those single-serve aseptic Silk soymilks really are useful on trips. (Too bad you ran out!) My heart goes out to you in your hunger! Ugh. In times like those, even a simple meal of hummus and pita bread with veggies would be welcome.
I had Carrot Cake Clif bar today, and it was oddly much, much more satisfying than Luna and Clif bars usually are, so get one if you are near any more Clif Bars soon! I'm serious! And maybe you'll be a little less hungry and little more happy :)

I agree with Ruby Red. Those little single-serve silk soy milks are quite useful on trips. I particularly like the chocolate. I know this is somewhat heavy and bulky, but some nut (peanut, cashew, or my personal favorite almond) butter is helpful.

We typically avoid fast food restaurants (not that there is much for vegans to eat there anyway), but TacoBell has bean burritos (hold the cheese). We go there on road trips. So, in a pinch....

eek! I'm sending psychic chili! :P
that's terrible that they can't even accomodate a vegan diet at a decent hotel... seriously not cool.

boy do I know how you feel! It's really really tough when you're forced to travel and can't eat what you need!

Ugh, I feel bad for you! Can't believe the hotel can't even come up with pasta marinara!! Hang in there.

it's a good thing you've been eating so many greens lately, so your body could stock up on nutrients...

Last time I was there, I went to Mediterranean Chef on the Strand & got some great stuff. Good luck on finding some real food.

Oh, no. Do they have oatmeal or something for breakfast? Try to eat plenty of fruit if they have it.

Oh that just sucks! I'm sure when you get back home you'll be cooking up a storm. Pictures please!

Same thing happend to me in Cleveland OH. I lived off of fruit for 3 days. I have to say being in Berkeley, CA is a great place for vegans. If any of you ever visit here let me know, I'll take you around to the best vegan food. :)

I always over-pack snacks for my family and me on trips, so that starvation dose NOT occur - hopefully you'll be able to find enough food soon!! hang in there, Amanda!!

Awww. I'm so sorry! I hate it when that's all you can get. Nebraska was a lot like that too. When you would just order vegetables, they'd put cheese over it as well. :( Good luck!

I'm sorry you didn't have a good time on the coast. There is only one place I like to go to eat in Galveston, and it's Mods coffee shop. Although, they are not all veg now, and have stopped selling thier best food item: vegan wraps. It might be a fun place for a day trip, but I would never want to be there any longer.

Hi! I will be in Dallas next March and am really concerned about this kind of thing happening to me too! OK, so it's only a week long conference trip but a week's a long time on steamed vegetables.....eek!

So glad you survived!!!
