Daring Bakers Challenge: Flourless Chocolate Cake

This month's Daring Baker's challenge crept up on me like no other. And it failed on me like no other. Since it was so last minute, I went with a simple tofu variation of a flourless chocolate cake recipe. Wish I had beans to make Hannah's version. It looked alright coming out of the oven....
But once it was de-panned... it turned into a mushy mess, not cakey at all! At least the vegan vanilla mimicreme ice cream made it somewhat edible.

The February 2009 challenge is hosted by Wendy of WMPE's blog and Dharm of Dad ~ Baker & Chef.We have chosen a Chocolate Valentino cake by Chef Wan; a Vanilla Ice Cream recipe from Dharm and a Vanilla Ice Cream recipe from Wendy as the challenge.

I promise to post for real tomorrow, and catch up on blogs! I'm sooooo behind....

hey! nice to see a new post Vegan Noodle! Sorry your cake was kind of a dud. I made a real dud dinner last week... Luckily it doesn't happen all that often, right? I have so many baking project ideas... when will I ever get to them all!?

Bummer!

Knowing you, you'll have to perfect this recipe and I look forward to when you do!

Mine came out mushy too and I baked it for a much longer time. I used Mimic cream too, but mine was just a tasty runny mess. :o) I agree with you about Hannah's recipe. It was perfect looking!!!

Oh no, sorry about your cake! I've been wanting to try making a flourless cake....now I'm not so sure.

Sorry about that, Amanda! I knew going raw would be at least predictable since I knew the recipe worked. The important thing is how it tastes! Now how it looks!

I made a tofu based cake also and found that the smaller ones I made came out more cake-y the larger full size cake was less cake-y. It also took 1 hour to bake and probably should have baked longer!

I think it looks GORGEOUS because it is chocolate, therefore it MUST look gorgeous :o)

Even though it had a different texture to the one you were expecting, I bet it still tasted good :)

Sorry to see it didn't turn out too well :( Replacing that many eggs in a cake can be pretty tricky.

Too bad the cake didn't come out as expected, but I have a feeling that a gooey, fudgy, pudding-like chocolate cake isn't too bad either... :)

This was a tough one to veganize. The ice cream was the best part of my challenge too!

Sometimes it tastes great anyway, even though you had something else in mind!

It looks great! And you can't go wrong with chocolate!

What is this bakers challenge? Can I get in on it? Where do I sign up?
I think that your tofu chocolate cake looks very edible and with my birthday tomorrow I am going to want a slice! :)

I used my newly acquired high-powered blender to whip up some egg replacer and fold it into the batter. I think that's what made mine work... but I'd really love to try the bean version too!!

Such a shame it collapsed! I don't know what the definition of 'flourless' covered but I have distinct memories of my mum making birthday tortes using almond or hazelnut meal in place of flour for substance and they were always delicious...

Oh my god! It looks amazing from here, anyway. The little crags and valleys look tantalizing. :-)
